There are 6 mistakes that I beleive are the most important to avoid when dealing with Google Adsense.
In short they are:
1-using images incorrectly
2-using wrong size ads
3-using wrong colors
4-failing to experiment and test
5-blindly following advice
6-sharing your stats

blindly following advice is the only point i believe worth discussing. I 100% agree with your this thought peoples just listen of one thing and do that with out doing their own home work and research which is very important. And sharing is always great you get to know new things about what you are doing wrong and how you can improve it.
